Message from the Patron

It is with immense pride and enthusiasm that I extend my warmest welcome to all esteemed delegates, faculty members, and participants of the 5th AIOA National Conference. This landmark event serves as a beacon of excellence, fostering knowledge exchange, innovation, and collaboration in the highly specialized domain of ophthalmic anesthesia.

Sri SankaradevaNethralaya (SSDN), as the host institution, has remained steadfast in its mission to provide world-class eye care while embracing cutting-edge research and training.
We believe that the intersection of ophthalmology and anesthesiology plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of surgical precision, patient safety, and clinical outcomes. The AIOA conference, in its 5th edition, embodies this vision by bringing together the brightest minds in the field, facilitating transformative discussions, and paving the way for advancements that will redefine patient care.

As we gather in the vibrant city of Guwahati, nestled in the heart of Northeast India, I encourage each of you to actively participate, engage in meaningful discourse, and seize the opportunity to learn from the collective wisdom of distinguished experts. This conference is not merely an academic congregation but a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence and our shared goal of reducing preventable blindness.

I look forward to welcoming you to SSDN, where knowledge meets compassion, and science serves humanity. May this conference inspire, educate, and empower us to elevate the standards of ophthalmic anesthesia and beyond.

Warm regards,
Dr. Harsha Bhattacharjee
MBBS, MS, FRCP (Edinburgh)

President, Sri sankaradeva Nethralaya
Patron, AIOA Annual Conference 2025

I am very happy to know that Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya institute, Guwahati is going to host the AIOCON  25 th in Guwahati on 7th,8th and 9th of November 2025. It’s a privilege for the Anaesthesia fraternity of Guwahati & north- east as whole to have such a prestigious conference of ophthalmic anaesthesia in the region. The organizers have optly chosen the theme of the conference as ” Art & science in ophthalmic anaesthesia”. Truly administration of anaesthesia for ophthalmic surgery needs a genuine mix of science & art especially in the vast majority of children & elderly patients.  The anaesthesiologist needs to handle these groups of patients very tenderly with deep compassion.

Ophthalmology as a speciality had contributed significantly in the evolution & development of anaesthesia. First local anaesthesia was used in ophthalmic surgery in the year 1884 by Austrian ophthalmologist Carl Koller. He used cocaine topically on cornea. Since that time local anaesthesia along with ophthalmic anaesthesia  had been developing with tremendous pace. Ophthalmic anaesthesia has also immensely contributed in the development of general anaesthesia for pediatrics patients.

I am confident that this forthcoming conference will throw new light on the recent developments in ophthalmic anaesthesia & enable  the participants  to acquire much more knowledge & skill in the field.

I wish the organizers grand success.
